Location, date change for Savannah Philharmonic’s ‘Phil the Park’ concert
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A location and date change has been announced for the Savannah Philharmonic’s “Phil the Park” concert.
Due to the city’s cancellation of events in public spaces due to COVID-19, the Philharmonic is moving the event just a few blocks away.
The free, outdoor concert will take place on Sunday, Nov. 14 on the lawn of the Metal Building at Kehoe Iron Works/Trustees’ Garden at 660 E. Broughton St.
“So while it was a shift for us, and we made the move from Forsyth to Trustees’ Garden. We felt it was really important, because we are still gathering, we’re coming together in a socially distanced, responsible manner...and we’ll have a lot of fun,” said Amy Williams, Executive Director for the Savannah Philharmonic.
The announcement of the date and location change for Phil the Park comes just over a week after the City of Savannah announced permits for events in public spaces, like Forsyth Park, would be revoked for the month of September, and permits for events in October and November to be re-evaluated in a few weeks.
The grounds will open at 2 p.m. and live music will begin at 3 p.m. The 5 p.m. concert will feature the Savannah Philharmonic orchestra.
“Our capacity is limited, so it’s a free, ticketed event. We encourage people to go online today at Savannah Philharmonic dot org, because we do expect them to go quickly,” said Williams.
Those who do snag tickets will be able to set up lawn chairs, blankets and bring picnic baskets. There will also be food trucks set up on site.
According to the Savannah Philharmonic website, all ticketed events will be required to show either proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test taken 48 hours prior to the concert upon entrance to the venue. Rapid tests will not be accepted. Children not yet eligible for vaccination will be exempt from the requirement. Masks will also be required at indoor events. This policy is effective through the end of the year for all Savannah Philharmonic events.
Free tickets are available online at savannahphilharmonic.org.
