LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Lanes of southbound Interstate 95 in Liberty County are closed due to a crash.

First responders on scene told The Coastal News Service that the truck was going south on I-95, ran off the road and got wedged under the underpass. It happened around 11 a.m. Thursday morning.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Markus White, the driver of the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder of the interstate and hit an embankment, causing him to become wedged under the bridge.

Crews from Liberty County Fire Services, Savannah Fire, and the Pooler Fire Department were on scene helping pull the driver free from the cab of the vehicle. Liberty County Sheriff William Bowman said the driver was alert and talking to first responders.

The driver has since been pulled out of the vehicle and taken to the hospital. The Liberty County fire chief confirms the driver is in critical condition but is stable.

Interstate 95 southbound is now open.
