Crowd enjoys a nautical display of Christmas lights on the Savannah River
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Boats floated down the Savannah River on Saturday for the Savannah Harbor Foundation’s annual Boat Parade of Lights.
It was a shorter event than anticipated, but families were just excited to come out and spend some time together for the holidays.
Families packed River Street to watch for one of the most popular events of the holiday season.
“I love to be out here with my family and see all the cool stuff that’s going to happen,” Kyle Barry said.
The Savannah Harbor has been doing this event for at least 20 years now.
Wrapped around each boat in its own unique way. This is a special time of year for families and the parade just adds to their list of Christmas traditions.
“We put up hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights ourselves, so we’re always busy this time of year,” Alyssa Mackelprang said.
Making sure they go all out to get in the spirit.
“We’ve got two big boxes of crazy Christmas hats at home.”
And some Savannahians say this is what the holidays are all about and Christmas wouldn’t feel the same without traditions that bring people together.
“Christmas wouldn’t be spirit, you know, Christmas if you can’t get out and enjoy with people and have things like this going,” Johnson Scott said.
