HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - Some say Liberty County has lost a visionary.

Longtime former Hinesville Mayor pro tem and council member Charles Frasier passed away on Thursday.

Frasier was the first African-American to serve on the council in 1987. He always hoped he could be a symbol of positive change.

"What we're doing right now is a great thing. All of the things that we do. All of our efforts are not in vain. We do appreciate that. We're looking forward to another great four years, " explained Charles Frasier after one of his political victories.

He remained in office for 28 years where he focused on developing and implementing policies to facilitate guided growth and protect community assets. He also chaired the Hinesville Planning and Zoning Board.

Frasier proudly served our country during the Vietnam War. He also volunteered with many community organizations.

He's survived by his wife, four children, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

There will be a visitation on Friday from 6 p. m. to 8 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville.

The funeral is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Live Oak Church of God in Hinesville.

Charles Frasier was 72 years old.
